Lekgwathi back at training

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates' veteran skipper Lucky Lekgwathi has returned to training after being on the sidelines from the pre-season preparations in Mpumalanga two months ago.

The Buccaneers Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mickey Modisane confirmed the news to Sport24 in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.

Modisane said that the long-serving versatile defender is still working on his fitness levels before returning to the field of play.

Lekgwathi is currently doing light training until the Sea Robbers' medical team confirm that he is ready to kick a ball.

Modisane also hinted that the club is not yet certain on when he will return to the first team.

“Lucky (Lekgwathi) is back at training,” Modisane told Sport24.

“He is doing all the training which will help him to regain his full fitness.

“He is not ready to kick a ball at the moment, so he is just jogging and warming up with the rest of the team.

“I’m not sure when he will be ready to start playing football at the moment.

“I just don’t want to make any conclusion with regards to this.

“Once he is ready to kick a ball, the medical team will inform our physiotherapist and we‘ll take it from there.

“Otherwise, besides him there are no injuries in the team, which is good.

“We have other players who are traveling to Sudan with the national team.

“But the rest are preparing for Sunday's match against the Nedbank Ke Yona team.”

If fit, Lekgwathi is expected to lead the Buccaneers as he will mark his 13th season with the club since joining them from Ria Stars in July 2002.
