Pretoria - The assault and malicious damage to property case against Kaizer Chiefs soccer player George Lebese was postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Lebese, dressed in a smart white shirt and black pants, appeared briefly.

The matter was postponed to May 13 for further investigations as two outstanding documents were still required by the State, the court heard.

The midfielder allegedly assaulted his 22-year-old girlfriend in Silverton on February 8. He also damaged her car.

The pair allegedly had a confrontation at the Jack Budha nightclub in Mamelodi West, Pretoria, after Lebese received a phone call, apparently from another woman.

When the girlfriend left in her car, Lebese pursued her, allegedly forced her to a halt, assaulted her and damaged her car.

The 26-year-old handed himself to police two days later and was released on bail.
