Lebese salvages point for Chiefs

Cape Town - A 67th minute goal from George Lebese saw Kaizer Chiefs maintain their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership as they played to a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

As it happened: Chiefs v Sundowns

Teko Modise opened the scoring for Sundowns ten minutes into the second half before Lebese levelled matters in the 67th minute.

The draw is Chiefs second of the season, but still sees them unbeaten after 11 rounds of league action and at the top of the table with 29 points.

The draw is Sundowns’ fifth of the season and sees them on 17 points.

The first half was a rather tight affair and produced very little in terms of goalmouth action as both teams cancelled each other out.

The second half was more entertaining and saw Sundowns come out of the blocks the quicker of the two with Modise producing a clinical finish to give his side the lead, 1-0.

Chiefs then took control of the game and saw Bernard Parker create the equalising goal in the 67th minute when he played Lebese into space and made no mistake in front of goal, 1-1.

Both teams pushed forward in the dying minutes of the game, but neither side could break the deadlock as the points were shared.

Chiefs Starting XI:

Khuzwayo, Gaxa, Mashamaite, Mathoho, Masilela, Katsande, Letsholonyane, Masango, Tshabalala, Lebese, Nkhatha.

Sundowns Starting XI:

Mweene, Mashaba, Nthethe, Mphahlele, Schut, Zungu, Kekana, Malajila, Zwane, Modise, Billiat.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
