Lamola the hero for Celtic

Bloemfontein - A headed goal late in the second half by Lerato Lamola gave Bloemfontein Celtic victory over Chippa United in their PSL clash at Free State Stadium.

Celtic enjoyed the lion's share of the ball possession and missed several goal scoring opportunities until eventually Lerato Lamola did find his range and netted with a blistering near post header from Lyle Lakay's set piece.

The home side really should have scored before the 83rd minute when Lamola did find the back of the net, after they squandered several good opportunities to score much to the frustration of their coach Ernst Middendorp.

After a bright start to the game by Celtic, Dumisani Zuma made a good run into the area and beat his marker, but he saw his 17th minute shot flash across goal and wide of the target.

In a rare opportunity for visiting Chippa United, midfielder Manti Moholo tried his luck from long range but his attempt flew way over the crossbar.

Siwelele came very close to the opening goal just after the half hour mark, but Lamola and Musa Bilankulu could not make the most of their chances and the Chippa defenders were able to clear the ball away into safety.

Siwelele came close again on the stroke of half time when a Keegan Buchanan set piece cause Chippa’s goalkeeper Mzimela all sorts of problems, and in the 50th minute Celtic should have taken the lead but Lamola took too long to cross into the area.

Then Bilankulu came close for Celtic in the 75th minute when he was on the end of a dangerous ball into the Chippa box. But he just could not make contact with the ball at full stretch when faced with only the keeper to beat.

Then the home side finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute through Lamola who did very well to glance a header home from the near post following a Lakay set piece out on the wing position.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
