Komphela gets Ertugral backing

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Mushin Etugral believes Steve Komphela will do a good job leading the club, and urged fans to be patient with the new man at the helm.

Komphela was the Turk's assistant during his spell with Amakhosi between 2000 and 2002, and he believes Chief's new coach will be an asset to the club.

Etugral warned fans the Glamour Boys could suffer a difficult start to the season following the departure of several key players at the end of last term, and advised them to get behind Komphela if that turned out to be the case.

"These departing players will be missed, but there are good players on the market," he told Soccer Laduma.

"It's not easy to fill big shoes, yet they will find solutions. I hope Chiefs fans give him some time because this isn't the same team anymore.

"He needs time to adapt to the level, but he will get there. There is nothing broken at Chiefs and so continuity is key. If he comes second and wins a cup, it won't be a failure."

Ertugral is set to come up against his former assistant in the new capaign after he was appointed the new head coach of Mpumalanga Black Aces.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
