Komphela completes PSL squad

Cape Town - Steve Khompela has completed a squad overhaul ahead of the new 2014/15 PSL season and targets a top 8 league position.

According to the PSL website, Maritzburg United have concluded a sponsorship deal with the Pietermaritzburg municipality.

"Everything has been signed and sealed, it's now up to us to deliver and not disappoint," said head coach Steve Komphela.

"We are now a team of choice for a city of choice. We are representing Pietermaritzburg." added the coach after The Team of Choice signed a three-year deal with Msunduzi Municipality worth R36 million.

With the influx of money into the team, Maritzburg United have allowed boss Steve Komphela to place his trust in youth as the club announced 16 new signings ahead of the 2014/15 season.

"Either I'm stupid or I'm brave," he said. "I think the only way you can give confidence to kids is to show bravery, but if you are a cautious coach, you think twice.

Komphela was excited to witness the growth of his players first hand and was confident the new faces will take their opportunity in the first team.

Maritzburg are pursuing a long term plan with many of the squad's older players having left at the end of last season.

Komphela has set his team the goal of finishing in the top 8 with at least 40 points at the end of the season.

The full list of players signed is: Kwanda Mngonyama, John Paintsil, Khumbulani Banda, Veluyeke Zulu, Abel Mabaso, Tsepo Moloto, Sibusiso Khumalo, Deolin Mekoa, Mphakamiseni Nene, Morgan van Rooyen, Menzi Chili, Mondli Cele, Sandile Dlamini, Mohau Mokate, Mike Mohammed.

Mamelodi Sundowns will begin the defence of their PSL title when they host Maritzburg United at Loftus Versveld on August 8.

The match kicks off at 20:00.
