Komphela: I can’t fault anyone

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela couldn’t complain as Chiefs lost to their rivals Orlando Pirates on penalties in the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

Komphela told Sport24 that although the starting XI on the day was chosen by the supporters, the emotions that go on in the game are the same as they are in any Soweto derby.

Komphela said that just like in any other game he wanted the team to win, but unfortunately they lost on the day.

"The emotions are the same," Komphela said.

“It's a derby and it's a very big game.

“You feel agitated when sitting on the bench.

“But we played well and the performance - I can't fault anyone.

“We didn't start well in the first half but improved well in the second, and even scored, but you know penalties.

“And that's where we lost.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
