Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates winger Daine Klate has revealed he carried a knee injury throughout last year’s African Champions League campaign, effectively putting his career at risk.
“I played in almost every game in the Champions League and I was carrying the injury,” he told his club’s website this week as he looked ahead to the Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria on Saturday night.
“My injury was quite serious. I feel much better and let’s hope I will be in a better shape for Saturday. Let's wait and see how it all goes. We need this match.”
According to the supersport.com website Klate said he was slowly getting to his top form.
The cup tie follows two successive league defeats for Pirates, which has effectively ended their hopes of the PSL title.
He said beating Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld will reinforce the teams’ bid to clinch silverware in the current campaign and in the process boost the team’s morale.
“We do not need to fix too many things; it is just here and there that we need to fix and things will be okay again.
