Klate: No getting carried away

Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits winger Daine Klate praised his team-mates for their bravery and character displayed in their victory over Orlando Pirates, despite playing the most part of the second half with nine men.

The Clever Boys defeated the Soweto giants1-0 at the Orlando Stadium to go to the summit of the Absa Premiership log thanks to Felipe Ovono’s own goal early in the first-half.

“I think it was a good team effort and we produced a good team performance overall," said Klate.

“We knew how important those three points are to us and to have sixteen points after seven games shows that we are doing well.

“We are sitting pretty on top of the log at the moment and we stand a good chance to clinch the first Q innovation.

“The guys showed a lot of character and good mentality despite being a man down and got the results.

"Pirates also got their chances but we managed to keep a clean sheet.

“And we also capitalised from a single chance we got thanks to a goalkeeping mistake.

“We need to take it one game at a time going forward without getting carried away because it’s still a long way to go.”

The Students next league encounter will be against the struggling Jomo Cosmos at home on Tuesday, October 27.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
