Khuzwayo backs 'father figure' Komphela

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has hailed the father-figure effect coach Steve Komphela has had on the team.

Komphela took over the AmaKhosi reins from Stuart Baxter, who steered Amakhosi to a Premiership and MTN8 double last season.

Khuzwayo, though, is backing the former Maritzburg United and South Africa coach to have an equally positive impact on the squd.

"I am one person who doesn’t judge people based on other people. Baxter had his way of doing things and so does Komphela. All I can say is that Komphela is also a good coach," Khuzwayo told Soccer Laduma.

"In the short space of time we have been working with him, he is more like a father figure to us. He makes us feel comfortable and we are all looking forward to working with him."

Against Free State Stars at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, Chiefs will be looking to register their first victory in the league this term, having kicked off their title defence with a goalless draw against Chippa United.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
