Khune: We deserve double

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune says that the supporters and players deserve to smile after they became double champions on Saturday.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Chiefs followed up on their ABSA Premiership win by claiming the Nedbank Cup after beating SuperSport United 1-0 in the final.

Khune admits that it has been a long, hard road to glory, but he believes that they have completely made up for their failure in 2011/12 - and that they can now head into the off-season with their heads held high.

"It's been a long season but at least we have something to show for it. Here we are, the double champions," he said.

"I think we deserve to be the double champions, we really worked hard throughout the season but credit must go to our supporters.

"They have been great - they have travelled with us everywhere we went in the country and I think they deserve to smile during the off-season.

"We reclaimed the glory. Last season we didn't rise to the occasion. But this season I think glory has been reclaimed.

"So ja, we deserve to be happy going into the off-season and I think we can come back next season geared up to defend our championships.

"The team spirit was very high and I think the results that we got showed how together we were."
