Kermit: Don't count United out

Johannesburg - SuperSport United striker Kermit Erasmus believes his side still have a chance of winning their fourth successive PSL title.

Matsasantsa go into Saturday's clash with bottom-of-the-table Moroka Swallows in ninth place - seven points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

After scoring his first league goal since his switch from Dutch giants Feyenoord against Bloemfontein Celtic, Erasmus is expected to retain his position in the starting line-up.

The Port Elizabeth-born star also turned out for Bafana Bafana against USA last week in a cameo role, which served as his second full international cap and now Erasmus is setting his sights on firing Gavin Hunt's side to yet another league crown.

"It's still a possibility and everyone at the club is still aiming for that," the 20-year-old told Football365.co.za.

"It won't be easy because having won the title three times in a row, everyone wants to beat us. We just have to take things slowly and see where we are later in the season but I believe there is enough talent in the squad to challenge."

Following a dream start to his SuperSport career that saw him notch a sensational goal against Saturday's opponents in the MTN 8 Cup back in August, Erasmus was dropped from the Matsasantsa squad as a causality of their poor start to the PSL season.

But having finally fought his way back into contention, he admitted that some straight-talking from coach Hunt was finally paying dividends.

"I had a chat with Gavin and he told me why I had been left out and what I needed to do to get back in," revealed Erasmus.

"It was frustrating for me because I had a good start but then I had to be patient when the coach wasn't picking me. I didn't come back to South Africa to be sitting on the bench every week so it was very hard at first but I realised that if I kept working hard I would eventually get back in the team."

He added: "I enjoy working with Gavin because he always tries to get the best out of his players. You can see from the results the club has had since he arrived how effective that can be - it's not by luck that they have own three league titles in a row. He's always telling me to work hard and concentrate on my game and then the rest will come."
