Kannermeyer backs Ajax to upset Wits

Cape Town - Former Ajax Cape Town defender David Kannermeyer has backed the Urban Warriors to turn the tables and upset Bidvest Wits after losing 2-1 to the Clever Boys in the league opener last weekend.

Kannermeyer, who also played for Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, told Sport24 that he has been impressed with the youthful Ajax Cape Town squad.

“While I feel the team is lacking a bit in terms of experience, I’m very impressed and I think they will give Wits a run for their money in the MTN8 semi-final match,” Kannermeyer said.

“Cup competitions are different league matches so it will be a different ball game to the one we saw over the weekend.

“I think Roger De Sa has a very good squad and they are capable of maybe winning a trophy this season.

Kick-off is on Saturday, August 15 at 20:15.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
