Bidvest Wits striker Calvin Kadi has described his opposite number Katlego Mphela as a "brilliant striker".

The Clever Boys ace was speaking to Football365.co.za after watching the PSL's top scorer net a brace on Sunday to help Mamelodi Sundowns beat AmaZulu 3-0 at the Moses Mabhida stadium. Mphela is now sitting on 15 goals in 20 starts this season.

"Mphela is brilliant," said Kadi, who now finds himself six goals behind the Bafana Bafana star in the league.

"Even if he defeats me (for the Golden Boot) in the end, I won't be sad, because at least I know I'm competing with one of the best.

"You can see he is a national team player. I played with him at SuperSport United, but because I didn't play a lot when I was there, we never played a lot together. He used to encourage me a lot and now I'm happy to be hunting with the lions.

"I'm up there, which means there is also something good that I have been doing, though I have fallen behind and things have been difficult because my team hasn't been doing well."

Kadi added that Mphela is benefiting from the players that surround him at Chloorkop.

"You see, the thing with him is that he enjoys his game. You can see he is not under pressure and he is just taking it easy. The one good thing for him is that he is surrounded by quality players there at Sundowns and he gets two or three good scoring opportunities at least in a game and because he is quality, he finishes them off."

However, Kadi insists he won't let Mphela win the top scorer award without a fight.

"I only need to score in one game and I will be back in it. It only takes one good game to turn things around and I believe I can do it. But like I said, even if I lose to him in the end, at least I know it would be to one of the best strikers around."
