KZN derby to be a boiler

Cape Town - KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United and AmaZulu will meet for an Absa Premiership derby at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Maritzburg played to a third draw from their last five league matches when they were held 0-0 at home by University of Pretoria in their last outing.

The KwaZulu-Natal team has claimed 12 points from seven home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City (both away) and Bidvest Wits (home).

The Team of Choice is placed fifth on the PSL log with 21 points from 14 matches.

AmaZulu suffered a fourth home defeat of the season when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Black Aces in their last outing.

The Durban side has claimed three points from seven away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Ajax Cape Town (away), Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates (both home).

Usuthu are placed 16th on the log with seven points from 13 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and AmaZulu have met in 14 league matches since 2006/07.

The Team of Choice has seven wins compared to two for Usuthu, while five matches have been drawn.

Maritzburg have won three of their seven home games against AmaZulu, suffering one defeat in the process.

Last season the Team of Choice won 2-0 in Durban, but Usuthu gained revenge with a 3-1 victory in Pietermaritzburg.

Kick-off at 20h00 on Friday, December 12.
