Josephs backs the Clever Boys

Cape Town - Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes that the Clever Boys can overcome their two-goal deficit when they host Platinum Stars in their MTN8 semi-final second leg at the Bidvest Stadium next month.

The Students lost 4-2 to Dikwena at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in the first leg encounter over the weekend, but the “Slim-Kat” is optimistic that his team will utilise their home ground advantage beneficially.

“Playing at home brings confidence, we have enough support base recently, yes we made our own mistake on Sunday, but it is possible to overcome the two goal deficit,” Josephs told Sport24 in an exclusive interview.

“We want to win and we are going to fight until the end. We are not going to under estimate our opponents but we will fight the battle.”

The 33-year-old Cape Town-born 'keeper also revealed that although he did not feature as much as he would have liked last season at his former club, Orlando Pirates, he is delighted to finally move on and he is enjoying a new chapter of his life.

“Every goalkeeper wants to play, am glad that am playing now and I have found my feet. I was not having a good time off the field of play,” revealed Josephs.

The former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper also revealed the contributing factors behind his departure from the Buccaneers.

“I wanted to move on. I accepted that the current Pirates goalkeeper was doing a fine job between the sticks and as a player when things are not going your way you need to move on.”

The former Ajax Cape Town goal-minder did not hide the fact that he intends to play as many games as possible for the Clever Boys.

Josephs also shared his ambitions for the current PSL campaign.

“Personally, I would love to play as many games as possible, because I didn’t play much football last season and as a team we want to compete, we are willing to fight as a team, we have a good coach and hopefully we will come out with something at the end of the season and also do well in the league.”

Wits will lock-horns with Golden Arrows in their Premiership clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
