Josephs: We have to move on

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates team-mates Moeneeb Josephs and Oupa Manyisa admit they don't know much about new coach Julio Cesar Leal but are looking forward to the challenge of working under him in the upcoming Premier Soccer League season.

The former AmaZulu and Moroka Swallows boss has a massive task on his hands with Pirates winning an unprecedented three trophies in the recently completed season.

He will need to maintain or improve upon their successes if he is to avoid a similar fate that saw him dismissed as Swallows boss after just one season.

The Buccaneers have handed the 60-year-old Brazilian a three-year contract and his first task will be to win over a largely skeptical Buccaneers squad.

Josephs told the club's official website: "I heard that Julio is joining the team and I think it is good for us. He obviously might have done something good enough to have convinced management that he is the right man to replace Ruud Krol and as players I think we will have to show him the respect he deserves and try working with him."

The Bafana Bafana stopper admitted he was sad to see former mentor Ruud Krol leave the club but admits he will not dwell on his departure.

He added: "Krol was a good coach and his record at Pirates speaks for itself, but this is football - people come and people go; no time to cry over the departure of Krol...as professional players we have to move on and get on with our jobs.

Manyisa, meanwhile admits that after such a successful season, it will be the players as well as their new coach who are responsible for the upcoming season.

He said: "I saw the Press conference live on TV and I want to take this opportunity to welcome the coach...I do not know much about him, but I think he is a good coach who can help us get better as players. The task of defending our title will not only be the responsibility of the new coach but of all of us...I am looking forward to meet the coach."
