Jomo will stick with us - Monare

Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos captain, Thabang Monare, led his side to promotion last Wednesday evening and is now looking forward to the PSL where he believes that Jomo Sono will stick with the current players.

The 1-0 victory over Moroka Swallows saw Ezenkosi climb back into the Absa Premiership at the expense of Black Leopards who finished the playoffs equal on points but with a weaker goal difference.

Monare spoke with excitement to Sport24 about now being in a position to face the best that the country has to offer.

“There will be pressure, you’d be playing against the best in the country,” he said. “It won’t be easy. It will be more of a brain game.

“We’d be playing with people who can think and not just run,” he said, taking a little dig at his NFD opponents.

The big question is whether or not Cosmos can survive it in the big time with their same pool of players. Monare is confident the manager will put trust in the core group of players that gained promotion:

“We have a great team it’s up to the coach to see whether he will add to that or not. Every decision that the coach will do from here onwards we believe in him because he’s the one who took us to where we are today. We should just go out there and grind. Nothing is impossible!

“I believe in our coach, he will give us a chance to go out there and improve ourselves because he knows what we can do with the ball. I really think he will give us a chance.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
