The clubs official Twitter account confirmed his return to Rustenberg as he addressed the media.

Johnson has been out of work since September last year.

The 56-year-old was axed from his post at SuperSport United after a mediocre first season, ending 5th on the PSL standings and anchoring Matstastansta to the bottom of the log during his second season as coach until United showed him the door.

“It was a unanimous decision as we all know how talented Johnson is,” Stars chairman Cliff Ramoroa said as quoted by Supersport.

“We welcome him to the family again and we have faith and believe in him that he will take us to heights of success. The Players, Technical and Support Stuff at the team welcomes Johnson with open arms and looks forward to a great future with successful memories.”

Johnson helped Dikwena finish in second position during the 2012/2013 campaign tailing Kaizer Chiefs with the help of Allan Freese as his assistant coach.

Meanwhile, Stars welcome Roger de Sa and his Ajax Cape Town side to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday, April 4.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
