According to KickOff, Johnson said his goodbyes to the United players in the dressing-room following their 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night.

Last month, Sport24 reported that Johnson had been told to deliver trophies or face being shown the door ahead of the new PSL season.

“All I need now is cups, cups, cups he knows that. I want cups and the League,” said SuperSport United chairperson Khule Sibiya.

Sibiya also revealed that Johnson was aware of the expectations placed on him.

United already have three losses this season with only one victory which sees them hold the 14th position in the Absa Premiership standings.

It's reported that Matsatsansta assistant coach Kwanele Kopo will be caretaker in the meantime as it is believed that Gordon Igesund and Ruud Krol are the front runners to be given the full-time job.
