Isaacs: It's payback time

Johannesburg - Dominic Isaacs joined Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of the season and could be making his debut for the Soweto giant this Saturday when they face Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership match.

"The possibility of me playing is good. I've been training with the team for six weeks now and I played in three friendlies. I am fit and ready," the obviously excited defender said.

"I can't wait to be a part of the team [starting] and I really can't wait to wear Chiefs colours," he said proudly of his number five jersey.

Since arriving at Naturena, Isaacs underwent treatment for a thigh strain which kept him on the sidelines and now, after eight months, the former Mitchells Plain resident wants to repay the Chiefs management who supported him throughout his turmoil.

"It's payback time. I want to play a good game, I want to contribute to us winning and mostly I want management, my teammates and the fans to know that I am Amakhosi through and through," the former Ajax Cape Town player said.

"Bobby [Motaung] and the coach [Muhsin Ertugral] have supported me since day one and the players welcomed me with open arms. I always felt like part of the team but at the same time I was so frustrated just watching from the stands."

The 26-year old could be used in central defence or in the right-back position but he says he is comfortable anywhere the coach will use him.

"As long as I am in defence I don't mind. We've got experienced players here and just to walk into the team is not going to happen, especially after all this time out.

"But the coach knows me and he knows how much effort I've put in to get over this injury. It will be great if I am selected to play. I'm excited about the prospect but at the same time I know I must not get carried away with my expectations. The important thing is getting three points."

Chiefs have been dismal in defence lately and were beaten by National First Division side Pretoria University in a Nedbank Cup match which brought about calls for Ertugral to be sacked.

The former Ajax mentor confirmed he won't be leaving the club and Isaacs says supporters must not panic.

"We're a big team and of course our fans want the best. We still have a shot at the league title and on Saturday we start the final leg of our challenge," he referred to the final six games.

"I hope they fill the stadium on Saturday and that we celebrate together," Isaacs said of his dream to play in front of the Chiefs faithful.

The match kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday at the Olympia Stadium in Rustenburg.
