In form 'Downs target Pirates

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates will look to avoid a third successive Absa Premiership defeat when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates suffered a second straight league loss when they were beaten 2-0 at home by derby rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The Soweto giants have claimed seven points from six home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Moroka Swallows (away), Bloemfontein Celtic and Ajax Cape Town (both home).

The Buccaneers are placed ninth on the PSL log with 18 points from 13 matches.

Sundowns claimed a second successive win and extended their unbeaten run to nine matches when they defeated Free State Stars 2-0 on Saturday.

The Tshwane side has claimed 11 points from six away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are University of Pretoria, Maritzburg United (both away) and Ajax Cape Town (home).

The Brazilians are placed second on the Premiership log with 23 points from 13 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and Sundowns have met in 60 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have 25 wins compared to 19 for the Buccaneers, while 16 matches have been drawn.

Pirates have won 10 of their 29 home matches against ‘Downs, suffering 13 defeats in the process.

The teams have met once already this season, with Bucs winning 3-0 away thanks to goals from Erasmus (two) and Majoro.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Wednesday, December 10.
