Igesund relieved after City win

Cape Town – SuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund was relieved to see his side come out victorious against Polokwane City in their last 16 Telkom Knockout encounter.

According to KickOff, Matsatsansta found themselves in a slump of late having lost three PSL games and drawing two with their first victory coming against Orlando Pirates in their opening fixture back in August.

The former Bafana Bafana coach deems that the 2-1 victory against Rise and Shine will put his side's 2015/16 campaign right back on track.

"It was a tough game for us tonight, going down to ten men for fifty minutes or so wasn’t going to be easy,” confessed Igesund.

"But the guys showed their character and commitment and the passion and desire to go out there and win.

"Like I said before, we just needed this one win under our belt to get things going and what a better way to do I than tonight.

“Credit to our players, they worked very very hard. With ten men against a team like this who move the ball around and pass it, we kept our shape nicely and did not give them any chances, and towards the end we got them shooting from distance, so I was very pleased with the players."

Thuso Phala gave the defending champions the best possible start as he showed great determination to open the scoring but his strike was soon canceled out by Puleng Tlolane.

SuperSport regained the advantage through Dove Wome shortly before the half hour mark but would go into half-time with 10 men after a moment of madness from Bradley Grobler.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
