Cape Town - Gordon Igesund believes that a club like SuperSport United should always challenge for the league title.
The Matsatsantsa coach has brought in a number of new signings in the build up to the season and despite two below par Cape Town Cup performances he insists that his squad is ready for a title push.
Igesund spoke to the media after the tournament and pinned his championship hopes on his packed strike force.
“He (Bhengu) has tough competition in the team, our strike force with (Jeremy) Brockie, Kingston Nkhatha, (Dove) Wome and Bradley Grobler,” Igesund said.
“We want to be competitive, we want to be one of the teams challenging for the championship if we can.
“I don’t want to be misquoted as saying that I am going to go out there and win the championship but I am saying that I want to build a team that can compete.
“SuperSport are a team that I think should be challenging and I hope that we do,” he concluded.
SuperSport begin their season with an MTN8 quarter-final against Bidvest Wits on Tuesday, August 4.
