Igesund confirms Doutie exit

Cape Town - It was reported recently that Gordon Igesund will be bringing in the on-loan players in the off-season to look for internal solutions to fill any gaps, however, Sameehg Doutie was not on that list.

Sport24 approached Gordon Igesund to get a direct take on the matter and he confirmed all prior reports.

“I haven’t really had the opportunity to look at the players who went out on loan and some of them are products of our development programme and we want to promote our kids. We want to have a youthful team as well. You can see by some of the signings I have made and some of the young players that came through last season ... they’re all 18/19 years of age.”

When asked directly about Doutie’s situation he was clear on the fact that the ex-Ajax and Pirates man was surplus to requirements.

“I’ve got enough players in wide areas. I’ve got Thuso Phala, I’ve got (Lebogang) Manyama. I’ve got a few players there. I’m certainly not gonna bring in players just for the sake of bringing them in.”

When asked whether Doutie could provide cover for Wome in the Middle of the park considering his shift in position at Wits last season Gordon was having none of it, saying that he is covered in all attacking and wide midfield positions.

“I don’t know (what is next for Doutie). He’s at Wits at the moment so I don’t know what the situation is there with him, but his contract is coming to an end anyway.”
