The troubled player has a long history of misdemeanours and was rumoured to be back to his old tricks again after missing several training sessions.
Dube Birds boss Igesund, who gave Chabangu's career a shot in the arm, insists this is not the case.
"He is injured and this is the only reason that has kept him away from the team," the coach told Sowetan.
"I can tell you that Chabangu is not up to his old tricks. He played 90 minutes against (Bloemfontein) Celtic and I was happy with his contribution but unfortunately he got injured in that match.
"His knee swelled up and looks like a water bottle and I understand that he is seeing a doctor in town. But I would have preferred to have him assessed by the club's medical team."
Igesund will be hoping to have the attacker back before the end of the season as he tries to save Swallows from the dreaded drop.
