'I cannot work with Ertugral'

The future relationship of Mabhudi Khenyeza and Ajax Cape Town is in the balance following revelations that current Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral could be re-joining the cape side in the new season.

Ertugral has publicly made it known that he would love to continue working at Kaizer Chiefs but indications are that the club is not keen to retain him and in fact, Amakhosi are reported to have already secured a new coach for next season.

And when Ertugral wiped tears at the end of an emotional and hard fought 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns a fortnight ago, it was a clear indication of his deep affection of the club he has grown to love but the knowledge that his days at Naturena were numbered probably got the better of him.

Now it has emerged that he is headed down south to re-join a team he led to the Telkom Knockout Cup but current PSL top goal-scorer with 16 strikes under his belt Mabhudi Khenyeza reiterated that should it happen that Ertugral was rejoining Ajax, then he will seriously re-consider his future with the “Urban Warriors.”

“If he is indeed coming to Ajax,” said Khenyeza, “I don’t know. But let me be open from the onset. I cannot work with Ertugral, period. If he happens to be coming to Ajax, then I will definitely request the club to transfer me overseas.”

“I would certainly welcome an opportunity to go abroad. I am not really particular about where, as long as I could kick-start my career at a smaller European league and adjust to the demands of European football before seeking a move to the bigger leagues like Italy, Spain, Germany and England.”

Khenyeza has always been a positive person and a hard worker to boot. Pity he has had to deal with negative reports throughout his career. But he is a fighter and this year, proved that he was among the best players in this country by forcing his way into the Bafana Bafana starting line-up.

“Hard work will bring you success,” he says. “I have always believed in hard work and in my abilities. Since I started playing football, I have always believed that nothing will come on a platter but that I have to work hard for everything.”

He admits that although his transition from Kaizer Chiefs to Ajax appears to have been smooth, the truth is that it has been very difficult to adjust to the style of the Cape side but if the coach demands that he should do a job, he cannot complain.

He is reported to be difficult to work with. But Khenyenza proved this year that despite being told not to collect from deep but to stay in the box at Ajax and now he is the country’s top goalscorer.

His ambition is to continue working hard and wants to hear nothing about reports that he has already won the golden boot award. He says there are two more matches to go and he will give his all to also catch the attention of national selectors.

“I want to be a part of the squad that will represent the country in the Confederation Cup and the only way is to work hard.”
