Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt opted against signing Lerato Chabangu because of the excess of players in his position.
Chabangu trained with Wits for several weeks in a bid to secure a permanent stay after parting ways with relegated Moroka Swallows.
Hunt explained that the winger's age had unfortunately worked against him.
"I feel sorry for Lerato, because he trained with us. I and the club just felt that we need to give our youth a chance," Hunt told KickOff.
"It's unfortunate, because we're in a position where we have Paseka Sekese (21), Phakamani Mahlambi (17), Mosiatlhage Abednego (20) and Vincent Pule (23), and they all play in the same area."
Veteran midfielder Brent Carelse found himself in the same boat as Chabangu.
"Brent trained with us in Cape Town, but he's in the same situation. I mean, I'd love to have Brent and Lerato because they're clever, they know what to do."
