Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has admitted that the club are attempting to sign Moroka Swallows attacker Lerato Chabangu.

The former South Africa international is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to sign a new deal with the Dube Birds.

Speaking at press conference ahead of his side's Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Ajax Cape Town, Hunt told reporters that he was looking to improve the Clever Boys' attacking options.

“There are a few things on the go on the moment. We need guys who can score goals. All of the clubs in the league are looking for players who can score goals,” Hunt said.

“Lerato Chabangu may not be able to play 90 minutes but he can add value. But that deal is not done and dusted yet.”

Wits have scored just 27 goals in 24 games this term, but currently sit fourth in the table after 12 wins, five draws and seven losses.

While strengthening his strike-force may be Hunts’ main goal for the coming transfer window, he admitted he could also be interested in Ajax Cape Town contract rebel Nazeer Allie.

The former Bafana Bafana right-back has been offered a contract extension by the Urban Warriors, but is currently weighing up his options.

“We are interested in every good player that is on for free, just like Ajax and every other club in South Africa,” Hunt said.

“If a player is good and coming to the end of his contract… I’m sure Roger has a list on his desk and so have I and we monitor the situations.”
