Hunt: Defence will take time

Johannesburg - SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt admits it will take some time for his new defensive set-up to gel after showing signs of vulnerability.

Matsatsantsa kicked off the new season with a 2-1 victory over Free State Stars in the MTN8 last weekend, but were held to a 1-1 draw in their opening PSL encounter against Ajax Cape Town on Friday.

United have brought in several new defenders in the off-season, namely Mor Diouf, Bevan Fransman and Lucas Thwala, and Hunt is hoping the trio can find their rhythm sooner rather than later.

"Defensively we weren't at our best but it will take a few games. But I'm not one for leaving it too long," he told The Sowetan.

"Diouf only came into our squad a few days before and he'll get better. We play a totally different game to what he is used to. We defend much higher up and it is much more difficult to play with a tighter (defensive) line."

SuperSport will next be in action in the MTN8 when they take on defending champions Orlando Pirates in the semi-final first-leg at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
