Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have announced defender Morgan Gould will undergo surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The 32-year-old went suffered the injury during the Amakhosi's CAF Champions League first round second leg tie against Raja Casablanca.

The player went down, seemingly in a lot of pain, in the first half of the encounter and the club's medical staff diagnosed him with a probable Achilles tendon rupture.

This was confirmed by the club's official website after the player had been taken to hospital.

The defender will undergo surgery to repair the damage and will miss the rest of the season as a result.

However, there is some good news for Chiefs fans as Tsepo Masilela's hamstring problem is not as severe as first thought.

The 29-year-old was replaced at half-time in Morocco due to the injury, but subsequent scans have revealed no damage was done to the hamstring.

The defender has been included in the squad travelling to Polokwane for Thursday's crucial Premiership clash against AmaZulu, along with Siphiwe Tshabalala who has recovered from his dental problems.
