Johannesburg - Morgan Gould believes clashes against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs will determine whether SuperSport are worthy of a third consecutive title.
The defending PSL champions will be hosted by Amakhosi on Wednesday night at Loftus Stadium and are eyeing nothing less than maximum points.
"In order to defend our title we have to beat teams like Kaizer Chiefs," the defender told Backpagepix.
"We have set goals for ourselves as a team and one of those goals is to get maximum points against the bigger teams if we want to defend our league title."
Gould is aware that SuperSport have been a bit sloppy in defence and revealed they have spent hours working on cutting out their mistakes.
"We have been letting a few soft goals in at the back but that is something we have really worked hard on at training. We need to stay focussed for the full 90 minutes," he added.
Meanwhile, Chiefs midfield general Tinashe Nengomasha is confident that his team-mates can halt United's charge for a hat-trick of championships.
"We are starting to play some good football and we are very confident going into the match," he said.
"We have been working hard in training and we are linking well together as a team."
Nengomasha knows it will be difficult to derail the champions, who have an abundance of talent in their ranks.
"We know United are good at set-pieces and good at going forward, but we have focused on that in training. They also have some dangerous players in Daine Klate and Anthony Laffor who we will watch very closely," he concluded.
