Johannesburg - The newly-elected SAFA executive committee believes this will be a step towards forging Bafana Bafana into a top team on the continent.
SAFA heads will meet with their Premier Soccer League counterparts in Johannesburg on Thursday to discuss this heated issue as well as those relating to amateur and professional soccer.
SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani believes the foreign influence is damaging the local game as it limits opportunities for domestic players.
"Currently, National Soccer League clubs can sign five foreign players, which is not doing the development of football in our country any good," he told the Sowetan.
"In addition, foreigners who have been in this country for more than five years become naturalised South Africans, meaning they can be fielded as local players. The problem is that these players cannot play for our national teams."
Nematandani cited Egypt as evidence for the proposition stating: "Egypt are the best African team because they use local players in their leagues and we should do the same here at home."
"We should bank on the talent that we already have and we have it in abundance."
In foreign leagues all non-domestic players have to feature in at least 75 percent of recent matches for their respective countries to qualify
for a work permit. The PSL allows each club the right to sign five foreign players regardless of this issue.
