Komphela thankful for Chiefs' luck

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela believes his team was fortunate to walk away unpunished after their 4-0 thumping of Free State Stars on Saturday.

While the score margin may suggest that it was a walk in the park for Chiefs, some defensive errors could have cost them dearly.

Stars were condemned by own goals from Robert Sankara and Liberty Chakoroma, while George Lebese and Siphiwe Tshabalala grabbed a goal apiece for Amakhosi.

"There were instances at the back where I felt that not too often will you get away with such murder," Komphela was quoted as saying by Soccer Laduma.

"I found our team grew and matured with the game - it went on, it went on, it went on and then we got the first goal and things started to shape up.

"Not taking anything away from Free State Stars, they played well in some instances and defended well with lots of energy."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
