Johannesburg - Wits’ newly recruited goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez could make his long-awaited debut when the Clever Boys host Bloemfontein Celtic in the season opener on Friday night.
The two sides will clash in the MTN8 quarter-finals at the Bidvest Stadium.
The 36-year-old shot-stopper penned a contract with the Students this week following his release from SuperSport United at the end of last season.
Fernandez was signed as cover for the injured Moeneeb Josephs who will miss the first six weeks of the 2014/15 season.
The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper shared his delights with Sport24 on Friday, after his inclusion in the 18-man squad to face Phunya Sele Sele.
“I might play tonight but I am not sure who will be in the starting line-up,” said Fernandez.
“But I’m in the 18 man squad for tonight.”
The much anticipated season opening clash will kick-off at 19:30.
