European move for Manyama?

Cape Town - Following this week's announcement from Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs regarding Lebogang Manyama’s move to the Soweto giants, his manager Maimane Phiri revealed that the attacking midfielder would rather prefer a move to Europe.

Both Ajax and Chiefs on Tuesday published press releases on their respective websites stating they have reached an agreement regarding the 23-year-old player.

Although Phiri claimed that the news was music to his ears when he read it in the newspapers, Ajax’s Public Relations Officer, Shooz Mekuto, confirmed to Sport24 that Chiefs came with an offer first and they are most likely to register Manyama on their books.

“There are three sides of the story in this matter,” said Mekuto.

“Kaizer Chiefs came first with an offer and we have reached an agreement with them but not with Manyama.

“Our press release stated that as well that the two teams agreed but it is still up to the player to agree personal terms with Chiefs.”

Mekuto did not dismiss Phiri’s claims about Manyama going overseas instead of moving to another PSL club.

“Maimane Phiri is also correct, the player might still go overseas if he doesn’t agree on personal terms with Chiefs.

“But from our side, if we decide to sell him to a local club, it will definitely be to Kaizer Chiefs because we already accepted their offer.”

Mekuto also confirmed that Manyama is still an Ajax player.

“Yes, Lebogang is still an Ajax Cape Town player at the moment until all the contract talks are finalised.”

The Thembisa-born player was on the scoresheet when he grabbed a brace when Ajax defeated Maritzburg United 3-1 at Cape Town Stadium last Friday.
