Cape Town - Newly-appointed Mpumalanga Black Aces head coach Muhsin Ertugral revealed his first job at the club will be to remove the dead weight from the squad.

Aces registered as many as 43 players for this season's disappointing Premiership campaign, in which they only managed a 10th-placed finish.

Ertugral wasted no time in telling the media this would be far from the case next season.

"The squad size will be around 23-24 plus the goalkeepers so it should be small," Ertugral told KickOff.

"However, what we will do is that the Challenge team, which is the Diski team, we have already made recommendations that it be combined with the Under-19 so that they are a team that challenges the first team.

"I will have personal hands on that team too. In football we need to eliminate romanticism. I love all these boys and we will have to speak to them first before we make any announcements but we will obviously make changes."
