Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral says their Cape neighbours Chippa United deserve to be in a PSL relegation battle after firing five coaches this season.
Chippa beat AmaZulu 2-1 on Saturday to avoid automatic relegation from the PSL, finishing ahead of last-placed Black Leopards who will play in the National Frist Division next season.
Chippa will now play in the promotion-relegation playoffs after Ertugral's Ajax secured their safety with a 3-0 win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Arrows are coached by Manqoba Mngqithi, the man who was fired by Chippa after only two matches in charge at the beginning of the season. Since then, four coaches have come and gone for the Chilli Boys, with Englishman Mark Harrison saving them from automatic relegation in their first season in the top flight.
"They deserve to be where they are, and you can write that," Ertugral told the Cape Times after his side secured safety.
"How do you give a top coach like Manqoba four weeks? These are the challenges that these people need to learn from.
"We don't have a lot of Manqobas, who comes out of nowhere and builds names. He's a cup-winning coach and you don't get that overnight.
"I think they should maybe look into this with more detail. For Chippa, if they survive, it will be very difficult next season," continued Ertugral.
