Dumitru: SA teams are erratic

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns technical director Ted Dumitru has blasted the country's teams and players, saying they are an "embarrassment" and that no player can claim to have dominated the season.

While strikers in Europe score upwards of 20 goals a season, the PSL's top scorer this campaign is Moroka Swallows' Siyabonga Nomvethe, who has a mere 13 goals.

Only five players are in double figures, and Dumitru is irritated by the inconsistency shown by players and coaches.

An irate Dumitru told Business Day: "Give me the name of the player who dominated the league this season and I will call him a hero.

"It is an embarrassment. Almost all the teams played erratic football that is inconsistent. Some coaches in this league just want to play direct, kick-and-rush football.

"And you wonder why the supporters are preferring to rather stay at home than go to the stadiums.

"The standard has become so poor that teams cannot even sustain performance for more than three games.

"So how can any one player be able to rise above all that when almost all the teams are so poor?

"This is very serious and we need to look at what is happening here."

Dumitru, who has coached Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and the Brazilians, conceded that current league leaders Bucs had been a bit more consistent.

The Romanian added: "They have a slight advantage in that regard. They are also drawing matches they are supposed to win but at least they are not losing like the others."
