Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United will meet for their first cup clash in the last 16 of the Telkom Knockout at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The teams have only met in four Absa Premiership matches, starting in 2012/13 when Chippa were first promoted to the top flight.
Sundowns hold an unbeaten record in the sequence, with two wins and two draws to their name.
The Brazilians and the Chilli Boys have yet to meet in the league this season, but last term the Tshwane side took four points from their two encounters: a 1-1 draw in the Eastern Cape and a 3-0 win in the return game.
Sundowns, who have two League Cup titles to their name (1990 & 1999), reached the semi-finals of last year’s Telkom Knockout before falling 1-0 to bogey side Platinum Stars.
The Brazilians beat University of Pretoria and AmaZulu in the last 16 and quarter-finals respectively. Chippa were also victims of Platinum Stars’ run to the final, as they were beaten 1-0 in Rustenburg in the last 16.
Chippa broke a losing streak in the league when they beat Polokwane City 2-1 at home on September 25.
In all, the Eastern Cape side has claimed two wins, one draw and three losses from their six league matches this season. All three defeats have come in away matches.
Sundowns have returned to form with two successive league wins at the back end of September. They first defeated newly-crowned MTN8 champions Ajax Cape Town 3-2 at home before outclassing Jomo Cosmos 2-0 away last weekend.
Kick-off at 20:15 on Saturday, October 3.
