Pretoria - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana says the Brazilians had to work hard for their 1-0 victory over National First Division (NFD) outfit, Vasco Da Gama, in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Sundowns eliminated the Mother City outfit at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, courtesy of Mzikayise Mashaba strike.

Kekana praised his team-mates for standing their ground and maintaining their professionalism as they managed to avoid an upset.

“It was really a tough match indeed and I think we expected it from an NFD team,” said Kekana.

“You know that the NFD team can run the whole day especially playing against big teams.

“But I’m happy that we managed to contain them and we applied ourselves as professionals.

“And in the end we won the match but we must also give credit to Vasco Da Gama for reaching the semis and giving us a good run for our money.”

Sundowns will battle for the Nedbank crown and a R7m prize against Ajax Cape Town at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on May 16.
