'Downs explain delayed return

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed their players will only return for pre-season training on June 30, given the fact their season ended a week later than the rest.

The Brazilians capped off the 2014/15 PSL campaign with victory over Ajax Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup final, seven days after the Premiership campaign had concluded.

As such, the Tshwane giants opted to give the squad an extra week off in a bid to recharge batteries ahead of the new season, which kicks off in mid-August.

"Yes the players are expected to meet for the preseason on June 30," Sundowns media officer Thulani Thuswa told Soccer Laduma.

"You know we finished the season a bit late and that's why we they are only coming back next week."

The dethroned Premiership champions are also set to make decisions on the futures of Kwanda Mngonyama, Abel Mabaso, Sibusiso Kumalo, Musa Nyatama and Mukuka Mulenga, who were all out on loan last season, and who could once again be farmed out for the 2015/16 campaign.
