Cape Town - Keagan Dolly says that he is happy to challenge for a wide position at Mamelodi Sundowns despite playing most of his football at central attacking midfield in recent years for Ajax Cape Town.
The creative midfielder took the time to speak to Sport24 about his first couple of weeks with the Brazilians after making two appearances for the Chloorkop side in friendly games.
“We played two games against a team in Mpumalanga last Thursday,” he said.
“The first one was okay for me, I was just getting used to the style of play because here there are a lot of ball players to receive passes from whereas at Ajax I played a lot off the second ball from the striker.
“At Ajax I often played from the middle, in the hole, but so far the coach has used me from the left which is where I started my career.”
If Mosimane continues to use Dolly out wide on the left it looks like he will be up against Mzikayise Mashaba and fellow new recruit, Mogakolodi Ngele, for a starting spot
Mashaba performed well towards the end of last season and picked up a valuable goal in the Nedbank Cup semi-final with a thunderous strike.
Dolly admitted that the competition for places will be tough, a task he says he is up for, but he also recognises that he and Mashaba bring different qualities to that position which is good for the team.
“It is good for the team to have options in that position, we both offer something different,” Dolly said referring to Mashaba.
Dolly is currently with the national under-23 team as they prepare for their game against Zimbabwe on the weekend.
