Rustenburg - Platinum Stars have guaranteed their safety in the Premiership with an impressive 3-1 win over Polokwane City at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night.

A brace from Eleazar Rodgers together with a Ndumiso Mabena goal overpowered Essau Kanyenda's second-half goal to secure their spot in South Africa's top division next season.

Dikwena knew that a win in this match would make it mathematically impossible from them to fall any further than 14th and began the game well.

Platinum Stars had Rise and Shine on the back foot as early as the fifth minute as Tlou Segolela swung in a cross for Rodgers, but the strikers shot was well saved by Modiri Marumo.

Polokwane fought back through a couple of Roger Majafa efforts but it was the men from Rustenberg who broke the deadlock.

Rodgers latched on to a good Tlou Segolela cross to head Stars into the lead in the eighth minute of the game.

The striker turned provider 10 minutes later as the 30-year-old played Mabena in who finished smartly with his left foot.

Rodgers rounded off a magnificent display with his second goal of the game four minutes after the break.

Polokwane City pulled one back in the 70th minute as Joseph Musonda's cross was steered past Kabelo Dambe by Kenyenda's header, but it proved no more than a consolation.

Rise and Shine pushed well late on, but were ultimately unable to add to the scoreline.
