Dikwena put four past FS Stars

Rusternburg - Platinum Stars have trounced Free State Stars 4-0 in a Premiership match in Rustenburg, thanks to two goals by the inspirational Thuso Phala.

Phala scored twice and had a perfectly good goal wrongly disallowed, but Dikwena were also supported by a fantastic goalkeeping display by Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Mogakolodu Ngele scored the third goal and Tintswalo Tshabalala put the final nail in the coffin.

The match was played in the scorching heat but after a thunderstorm late in the game the event was almost abandoned.

The home side took the lead just after the half hour mark when Phala brought the ball onto his left foot and shot at goal, but he was helped by a wicked deflection that sent goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene the wrong way.

Then Phala had the ball in the back of the net, having beaten the offside trap and gone around Mweene. But the assistant referee called him offside, which was the incorrect decision. Phala was booked for shooting at goal after the whistle had gone.

Five minutes into the second half, Phala got his second goal. Dikwena broke out with a superb counter attack and after a one-two with Mogakolodi Ngele, Phala got into a great position and struck with a first time left-footed shot.

The third goal, scored by Ngele, came after a great piece of work by ex-Bafana Bafana man Vuyo Mere on the right flank. Mere’s square pass found Ngele who beat Mweene with a firs time shot that went in off the upright.

The match was then stopped for a few minutes when a thunderstorm darkened the skies in Rustenburg. But the weather cleared up and the match could go on.

Soon after the restart, Ngele supplied the pass for Dikwena’s fourth goal, which was scored by Tintswalo Tshabalala, his first of the season.
