Rustenburg - It was all square at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night as Platinum Stars and SuperSport United played to a goalless draw.

The first half was a dour affair, with goalscoring chances at a premium as both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances in front of goal.

The Swanky Boys started the match on the front foot and attempted their first shot on goal in the first minute, Innocent Mkhabela failing to find the mark with a speculative effort.

Jeremy Brockie was denied by Kabelo Dambe in the Dikwena goal in the 15th minute as Supersport continued to search for an early breakthrough.

They were again denied on 22 minutes as Bradley Grobler saw his shot blocked by Stars defender Rofiwa Tshikovhi.

The hosts eventually mustered a notable response just after the half-hour mark, creating two good chances in quick succession. However, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was up to the task on both occasions, first denying Ndumiso Mabena before thwarting Mduduzi Nyanda.

The rest of the first half passed without incident as the two sides went into the half-time break level pegging.

Unfortunately, it was more of the same after the interval as the two goalkeepers were rarely called into action, and when Williams was needed, he collected Tshikovhi's goal-bound effort with minimum fuss.

Following a lengthy lull in play, SuperSport briefly threatened to score in the 57th minute when Dambe raced off his line to punch clear Dane Klate's inswinging cross from a free-kick.

SuperSport substitute Morne Nel had a chance to snatch the points for his side late on, but his tame effort was saved by Dambe.

That was the last real chance of note as both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils in Rustenburg.
