Defence has Komphela worried

Bloemfontein - Defensive errors were to blame for allowing rivals Bloemfontein Celtic back into the game, said Free State Stars coach Steve Komphela.

''The threat will always be there when you play Celtic at home. They delivered quality balls which we failed to deal with," Komphela said after his side conceded a 2-0 lead in the Free State derby on Sunday.

"Our downfall had to do with the lack of collective responsibility in defence, something that we have been struggling to deal with from the start of the season." Stars - the away team in the derby game - had to settle for a share of the spoils after rising star striker Luyolo Nomandela and Basit Adam netted in each half.

"We have been conceding goals from set-pieces and it is a challenge we need to serious address.

"Nonetheless, I'm happy with a point because not many teams come and go here with maximum points.''

Clinton Larsen's charges had other ideas and displayed character to force their way back into the game.

Musa Nyatama and Rodrick Mutuma both scored to salvage a point for Celtic in the 58th and 72nd minutes, respectively.

''I'm pleased with large parts of the team's performance because we showed character, but not the result," Larsen, the Celtic coach, said.

"We are never happy to draw at home. The positive thing is that we are creating and scoring goals which is key.'
