Daniels strike wins it for SSU

Pretoria - SuperSport United captain Clayton Daniels netted from the penalty spot to hand his club their first Absa Premiership win of the season, beating Chippa United 1-0 in Tshwane.

Daniels’ goal, which proved to be the winner, came after 24 minutes.

On debut for SuperSport, Togolese international Dove Wome got in a strike in the 10th minute which was saved by Tshepo Motsoeneng. Two minutes later and Bennett Chenene passed to Wome inside the danger area and he drove his effort straight at Motsoeneng.

Then, in the 17th minute, Chenene put an effort wide of goal following a cross by Prince Nxumalo. The SuperSport pressure finally bore fruit when they were awarded a penalty after a handball inside the area.

SuperSport skipper Clayton Daniels stepped up and slotted the spot kick past Motsoeneng to give the home side a deserved lead.

In the 27th minute visiting side Chippa United got in a goal attempt when Andile Mbenyane tested Ronwen Williams, but the Bafana Bafana ‘keeper made a great save.

Just after the half hour mark, SuperSport had a great chance to extend the lead even more, but Thuso Phala sent his shot straight at Motsoeneng with just the goalkeeper to beat

Ten minutes into the second half and SuperSport missed a very good opportunity when Prince Nxumalo failed to punish the Chippa defence after Motsoeneng miskicked the ball.

Thuso Phala saw a good chance to wide after 58 minutes when he put a shot wide after good work by Nxumalo.

The match took an unexpected turn in the 65th minute when referee Victor Gomes red carded two players at the same time. When Prince Nxumalo and Christoph Komane both went in with a studs up challenge, he deemed the challenge dangerous and sent them both off.

In the last fifteen minutes of the game, Chippa United began throwing more and more bodies forward to attack the home side and push for an equalising goal.

In the 87th minute Chippa came the closest to scoring all night when, from a free kick, Zulu's attempt hit the post. And just a minute later Mbenyane put a shot wide of goal.
