The Team of Choice lead through Deolin Mekoa's deflected goal after just five minutes, before Kermit Erasmus leveled with 25 minutes to play.

The result, coupled with Mamelodi Sundowns beating SuperSport United, means the Buccaneers cannot qualify for the CAF Champions League, while Maritzburg still have work to do if they want to finish in the top eight.

According to KickOff, Komphela says that his charges needed to be very disciplined in the first half after taking the lead but a late tactical changes saw Erasmus equalise.

"Just before we could tweak our structure to create more lines, so Orlando Pirates could find two or three lines before going through to the goalkeeper, they scored. And as soon as we did that it got better.

"But the biggest challenge tonight, we needed to get closer to Manyisa. We needed to get closer to Issa Sarr. As soon as we did that, then it was a bit quiet.”
