Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic walked out on the press at the club's media day on Thursday, saying he would no longer make himself available to the media.
The Serbian coach stunned the press in Naturena ahead of his team's Absa Premiership clash against Platinum Stars at the Rand Stadium on Saturday night. Vermezovic said he was disappointed at an article misquoting him in a daily newspaper.
The article quoted Vermezovic stating he was a better striker than one of his players, Kaizer Motaung junior, after Amakhosi lost to Bloemfontein Celtic on penalties in the annual Macufe Cup in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
But the Serbian also stunned his own media officers and Chiefs football Manager Bobby Motaung by his impromptu lashing of the media.
“This situation could cause a division between me and the players and I will not allow this to happen again," Vermezovic said.
"I never said what I was reported to have said about Kaizer junior. In future I will not talk to the media.”
With that he stood up and left the conference to stunned silence.
Motaung said he would approach Vermezovic for an explanation.
“I will deal with this. The coach took me by surprise by what he said. I was not expecting this statement," Motaung said.
"It was emotional and when he calms down I will talk to him and sort this out.
"We need the media. We welcome constructive criticism but when things get out of control like this one can feel for the coach.
"But I will also speak to the newspaper concerned and I am confident I will be able to resolve this and have the coach back on good terms with the media before long.”
